Dr. Thomishia “Mishi” Booker

Licensed Therapist • Children’s Book Author • Mindfulness  Educator • Speaker

Dr. Thomishia “Mishi” Booker is a licensed therapist, children’s book author, and speaker whose work centers representation, healing, and emotional wellness for children and families. She is the founder of Hey Carter!, a collection of affirming children’s stories inspired by her son, Carter, and her daughter, Truly. Dr. Mishi created Hey Carter! after feeling disheartened by the lack of representation of Black boys in children’s literature.

She holds a Master’s in Social Work and a Doctorate in Education Counseling Psychology, and began her career supporting early childhood mental health in San Jose, where she grew up. Her background in mental health and education shapes the way she writes, teaches, and connects with families, schools, and communities. Dr. Mishi serves as a board member for The Reading League California, supporting evidence-aligned literacy instruction statewide, and is a former board member of A Black education Network (ABEN).

Mindfulness, Healing, and Education

Alongside her writing, Dr. Mishi teaches mindfulness, self-regulation, and inner-child awareness in ways that feel accessible and grounded. She supports:

  • Schools and districts with social-emotional learning and classroom wellness

  • Child care centers with early childhood mental health strategies

  • Parents and families with mindfulness tools, affirmations, and connected parenting

  • Educators and leaders with practices that reduce stress, burnout, and reactivity

  • Nonprofit organizations, health care systems, and workplaces with approaches that strengthen connection, communication, and emotional well-being

Her approach blends psychology, storytelling, and mindfulness tools that help people slow down, notice what they feel, and approach themselves with greater compassion.
