Dr. Thomishia "Mishi" Booker launched Hey Carter! after being disappointed in the lack of representation for Black boys in children’s books. Hey Carter! is inspired by her son, Carter and now daughter Truly. Dr. Booker earned a Master’s in Social Work and a Doctorate in Education Counseling Psychology. She is a licensed therapist and began her career working in early childhood mental at a non profit in San Jose where she is from. Dr. Booker supports schools, districts, and child care centers with the training and education goals.

Bookmarks: Celebrating Black voices

Brown Boy Joy was chosen for the Netflix original series Bookmarks because it aligned with the Teaching Tolerance for Social Justice Curriculum used to create the show. Brown Boy Joy is read by Grammy nominated singer, songwriter, and actress Jill Scott.
